London Town

Last Friday marked Spencer's 9th week at Barclays, this means that he's halfway done with his internship!  We can't believe how fast the time has gone!  We suddenly realized how many things we still want to do before we leave!!! We're missing everyone back home - I'm missing one of my best friend's weddings next week :( - but we've loved the experiences we've had here.  Here's a little update on what we were up to last weekend, then I've got to catch a train to meet Spencer in Warwick.

After purchasing our Les Mis tickets, Spencer had some time to kill, so he went to Trafalgar Square and took this awesome picture.  He's definitely the better photographer of the two of us.
Spencer surprised me last Wednesday evening.  He called me and asked me to pack him a dress shirt and meet him.  When I asked why, he said to look at my phone, where he'd texted me the pictures of our tickets.  I was beyond excited. Les Mis was even better than I could have imagined.  It was so flawless you forget you're watching a live production, it seems more like a movie.  The performers were fantastic, the stage was fantastic, Les Mis is fantastic in-and-of itself....let's just say we're going to have to see some more shows while we're here.

Friday night we ate dinner on the grassy hill by our house, complete with a gorgeous sunset.  Of course, pictures don't really do it justice.

Saturday, we finally caved and bought tickets for the London Eye.  It was pretty cool, but I don't know that it's worth the cost, especially if you're only here for a few days.  We enjoyed finding all the places we'd been from way up high. Sometimes I don't realize how huge London is!

After the London Eye, we visited the London Dungeon.  This is like a combo of Disney-esque rides, a haunted house, and a history lesson given my actors all mixed into one.  We had to wait in the queue for over 3 hours to get inside, which was a little bit miserable (particularly the part where we were next to the glass cage full of nasty, stinky rats), but it was really fun on the inside.  The Dungeon tells the story of many famous "dark tales" of London including King Henry the 8th, Sweeny Todd, the plague, and Jack the Ripper.  Unfortunately, there were no pictures allowed inside, so we had to take some at the entrance.

After the dungeon, we bought some Market food.  Indian Curry and freshly made mini churros.  Market food is our favorite food here!

After dinner, we headed to Picadilly Circus.  We visited M&M world which was a letdown.  It's huge and full of merchandise, but they only sell chocolate and peanut M&M's! That's all they sell in England!!! I guess I"ll have to wait until I'm home for some peanut butter, coconut, or mint M&Ms.  The Coca-Cola sign is in the center of Picadilly Circus, which I would describe as London's Times Square.  Spencer also wanted a picture with one of the straight-faced guards.

Sunday we took a walk in the area around our house.  Everything is so green and beautiful here, but we never take pictures where we live.  Isn't it funny how we forget to see the beauty in our own backyard?
